Tartans Compete at West Virginia Pushkin Invitational and Vulcans Early Bird
(MORGANTOWN, W.Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team opened its outdoor season at the West Virginia Pushkin Invitational and California University of Pennsylvania Vulcan's Early Bird on Friday and Saturday.
Top Performances at WVU
- Junior Matthew Yu took fourth place in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.96, a new personal best for him.
- Freshman Haoran Lin won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.48 seconds. He was followed by sophomore Kurt Schimmel in third with a time of 16.32, and senior Casey Potrebic in sixth with a time of 16.74 seconds.
- Yu finished the 200-meter dash in second with a time of 22.37.
- Freshman Eric de Oliveira ran 48.82 in the 400-meter dash, which puts him fifth all time in CMU history. Shortly behind him in third was senior Jermy Ocloo in 49.45. Freshman Aryan Hiray finished sixth with a time of 49.94. Sophomore Ryan Joyce finished eighth with a time of 50.17.
- Junior Philip Ma won the 400-meter hurdle dash in a time of 55.82 while sophomore James Brewer finished fourth in 59.23.
- The 4x400-meter relay of Ocloo, Joyce, Hiray and de Oliveira won in a time of 3:21.05.
Top Field Performances at WVU
- Potrebic took fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.80 meters, freshman Martin Devine finished seventh with a mark of 1.70 meters.
- Junior Solomon Glavach won the pole vault with a mark of 4.40 meters. Sophomore Lucass Knappenberger finished third in 4.25 meters. Junior Ryan Handron finished sixth in 4.10 meters, and sophomore Adi Verma finished 3.95 meters to round out the Tartans in the pole vault.
- Potrebic took third in the men's shot put with a throw of 13.01 meters.
Top Performances at CUP
- Freshman Mohammad Ahmed threw a mark of 41.98 meters to take third place in discus. Shortly behind was Senior Sam Alligood, in fifth with a mark of 40.51 meters. Rounding out the top eight was junior Johnathan Crawshaw and freshman Carter Klaus who threw 38.44 meters and 38.17 meters, respectively.
- Senior Victor Crawshaw finished in fourth place in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.17 meters. His brother Jonathan Crawshaw finished ninth in 41.39 meters.
- In javelin, sophomore Watson Feil threw 48.26 meters to take sixth place.
- Freshman Alexander Moser took sixth place in the long jump with a mark of 6.40 meters.
- Johnathan Crawshaw won the shot put with a mark of 14.47 meters. Ahmed took fourth with a throw of 13.76 meters, just behind was Alligood in fifth place with a throw of 13.62 meters, freshman Grayson Metz threw a mark of 12.33 to finish seventh.
