Short Earns First-Team All-America in Mile, Freimanis Finishes 15th in Heptathlon at NCAA Championships

(BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) – Junior Matthew Short and sophomore Luke Freimanis earned All-America recognition at the second day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The championships are being held at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.

NCAA Performances

  • Short ran in the final heat of the mile, finishing in a time of 4:15.37. He placed sixth, the third best mile finish at the NCAA Championships in program history. His finish earned him All-America First Team
  • Freimanis finished the heptathlon in 15th place with 4,870 points, after finishing the final three events of the heptathlon to earn All-America Second Team.
  • Freimanis ran a time of 8.27 in the 60-meter hurdle run, recorded a mark of 4.05 meters in the pole vault, and finished the 1,000-meter run in 2:47.42.

Notes

  • This is the first All-America honor for Short.
  • This is Freimanis' second All-America honor as he placed second last year at the championships to earn first team recognition.
