Freimanis and Short to Compete at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field athletes have received an invite to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 13-14. This year's championships will be held at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Sophomore Luke Freimanis and junior Matthew Short will represent Carnegie Mellon in Alabama. Freimanis will be competing in the heptathlon with Short running the mile.

Freimanis enters the championships fifth after recording 5,019 points at the Bison Open in early December while Short will enter ranked with the sixth best time in the mile at 4:06.71. Short ran that time at the Boston University David Henry Valentine Invite in February.

This mark is the second straight year Freimanis will be competing in the heptathlon at the championships while Short is making his first appearance.

The heptathlon begins on Friday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. and the mile preliminaries will be run at 3:50 p.m. on Friday.
