Yu Sets Two School Records in Friday Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team traveled to two meets on Friday, February 20. The Tartans competed in the Penn State Tune Up and the Mount Union Last Chance meet for the last competition before the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.

Top Events at Penn State

  • Junior Matthew Yu placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a new school record time of 6.85 seconds. He later placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.99 seconds breaking the school record once again.
  • Senior Morgan Johnson won the long jump with a mark of 6.99 meters and sophomore Luke Freimanis placed sixth with a mark of 6.51 meters. Freshman Alexander Moser placed seventh with a mark of 6.38 meters.
  • Freimanis placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.25 seconds.
  • Junior Atai Tahasan placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.18 meters.
  • Freshman Stefan Langridge ran 4:19.24 to place sixth in the mile.
  • Freshman Franklin Ritz placed eighteenth in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:58.97.
  • The 4x400 meter relay team composed of senior Jeremy Ocloo, sophomore Ryan Joyce, freshman Aryan Hiray, and freshman Eric de Oliveira ran a new school record time of 3:17.31 to place second.

Top Events at Mount Union

  • Junior Solomon Glavach won the pole vault with a mark of 4.69 meters. Junior Christian Duckworth, sophomore Lucas Knappenberger, sophomore Adi Verma and junior Ryan Handron placed third, fourth, and tied for fifth respectively with marks of 4.59 meters, 4.44 meters, and 4.14 meters.
  • In the weight throw, junior Victor Crawshaw took fifth place throwing a mark of 13.41 meters.
  • In the shot put, Crawshaw placed second with a mark of 14.99 meters, in fifth place was freshman Mohammad Ahmed with a mark of 14.25 meters. Senior Victor Crawshaw placed eighth with a mark of 13.53.
  • Freshman Yusuf Shabazz ran 7.19 seconds to place third in the 60-meter dash finals, followed by freshman Nathan Kougher with a time of 7.26 seconds in fourth place.
  • Sophomore Jon Okorie placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.32.

The Tartans will compete next at the UAA Championships hosted by the University of Chicago on Saturday, February 27th and Sunday, February 28th.
