Freimanis Named UAA Track Athlete of the Week

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Sophomore Luke Freimanis of the Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for running events following his performance at the Bucknell Bison Open over the weekend in the heptathlon.

In his first meet of the season, Freimanis won the heptathlon with 5,019 points, while he finished first in three of the seven events. He placed first in the long jump with a mark of 6.99 meters, in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.44 and in the pole vault, clearing 4.35 meters. Freimanis was third in the high jump with a mark of 1.83 meters and third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.19.

He currently ranks second nationally in the heptathlon while ranking tops in the UAA in the 60-meter hurdles and heptathlon.

On Saturday, January 24th, the Tartans will travel to John Carroll University to compete in the Leo Miller/Hayden Snow Meet of Champions.
