Four Tartans to Compete at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Four athletes from the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team have qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, set to take place May 22–24 at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. This marks the sixth consecutive year the Tartans will send three or more competitors to the national meet.
Graduate student Matthew Porter will race in the 10,000-meter run for the second straight year. In 2024, he finished 15th and earned Second Team All-America honors with a time of 31:33.76. Porter enters the 2025 championship with a qualifying time of 29:48.50, recorded at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
Senior Casey Potrebic qualified for the decathlon after his performance at the University of Mount Union Last Chance Meet, where he set seven personal bests and scored 6,488 points.
Graduate student Matthew Denton and sophomore Matthew Short round out the Tartans competing at the championships. Both earned a spot in the 1,500-meter run with times of 3:48.45 and 3:48.59, respectively, achieved earlier this week at the Widener Final Qualifier.
The first event at the championships is the men's 100-meter dash of the decathlon and set to start at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 22.
