Tartans 4x100-Meter Relay Builds on School Record Time at John Papa Invitational

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the John Papa Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University on Thursday.

Top Performances on the Track

  • The 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Matthew Yu, junior Bennett Wong, freshman Victor Ruhland and freshman Devin Chang placed second, breaking their own school record time set earlier this season, as they crossed in 41.67 seconds bettering the previous time of 41.78 set at the CMU Invitational.
  • Freshman Kurt Schimmel took third place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.52 while senior Micah Nowlin took seventh with a time of 16.20.
  • Freshman Ryan Joyce placed sixth with a personal-best time of 49.76 in the 400-meter dash.
  • Senior Sean Dutton took first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.80.
  • Sophomore Philip Ma took fourth with a time of 56.35 in the 400-meter hurdles.
  • Junior Gaven Williams, Dutton, freshman David Pinero-Jacome and Joyce placed fourth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:26.61.

Top Performances on the Track

  • Junior Morgan Johnson and senior Sebastian Sanso took first and second in the long jump with marks of 7.22 meters and 7.18 meters, both personal-best jumps.
  • Freshman Lucas Knappenberger placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 12.71.
  • Freshman Watson Feil took eighth in the javelin throw with a mark of 44.41 meters.
