Tartans Compete at Westminster Invite and Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon men's track and field competed in two over the weekend. Seven athletes attended the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, facing Division I, II and III institutions. The rest of the team traveled to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania for the Westminster Invitational.
Top Performances at Bucknell
- Completing the 10,000-meter run in a school record time of 29:38.72, breaking his previous school record time of 29:47.14, was senior Matthew Coyle as he placed eighth in a field of 45 athletes. Graduate student Matthew Porter finished also with a personal-best time of 29:48.50, placing 14th.
- Sophomore Matthew Short placed 20th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:52.43. Seniors Matthew Denton, Aleksei Seletskiy and Colin McLaughlin also ran the 1500-meter, crossing the finish line in 3:55.18, 4:03.20, and 4:15.12, respectively.
- Senior Anthony Toskin placed 25th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:27.08.
Top Performances at Westminster
- Three Tartans finished in the top eight in triple jump. Senior Sebastian Sanso won with a personal-best mark of 14.40 meters. Sophomore Atai Tahasan placed second with 13.34 meters, and freshman Lucas Knappenberger placed fifth with 12.81 meters.
- Junior Morgan Johnson won long jump in a field of 35 athletes with a mark of 6.96 meters.
- Freshman Watson Feil placed fifth in javelin throw, reaching 47.46 meters.
- With a mark of 4.45 meters, sophomore Solomon Glavach finished sixth in pole vault.
- Three Tartans were on the podium for the 5000-meter run. Sophomore Nathan Massie won with a time of 15:08.22. Junior Thomas Damiani placed third with a time of 15:19.15 and sophomore Angelo Parrino placed fourth with a time of 15:21.54.
- Freshman Kurt Schimmel won 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 15.34. Senior Micah Nowlin followed in fourth place with a time of 16.42.
- Freshman Ryan Joyce completed the 400-meter dash and crossed in 50.93, finishing fifth. Junior Gaven Williams completed the race and had a time of 51.81, earning eighth place.
- In the 800-meter run, freshman David Pinero-Jacome finished in a time of 2:00.32, earning seventh place.
- Freshman James Brewer's time of 57.43 placed him in first in 400-meter hurdles.
- Freshman Nicolo Fasanelli and junior Kenji Tella took the top two spots in the 3000-meter steeplechase with times of 9:33.65 and 9:36.46, respectively. Senior Seth Williams also made the podium, earning sixth place with a time of 10:02.19.
