Freimanis Named Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year

(NEW ORLEANS, La.) – Freshman Luke Freimanis of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team has been honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with outstanding regional recognition. Freimanis was named Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year, becoming the program's second men's track and field athlete to garner a regional award for the indoor season.

Freimanis placed second in the heptathlon at the 2025 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships with a school-record finish of 5,161 points. He moved from 12th place after day one to second by placing first in the 60-meter hurdles and fifth in the pole vault and 1,000-meter run. Overall, he had individual event career-best marks in the pole vault, 60-meter dash, and shot put.

Earlier this season, Freimanis broke the school record along with the University Athletic Association (UAA) record in the 60-meter hurdles. He was also named UAA Rookie of the Year.
