Three Tartan Men to Compete at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships
(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Three Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field athletes have received an invite to compete at the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 14-15. This year's championships will be held at the Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth University in Pittsford, New York.
This marks the sixth straight indoor championships which the Tartans will have three or more athletes competing.
Seniors Matthew Coyle and Casey Potrebic along with freshman Luke Freimanis will represent Carnegie Mellon in New York. Coyle will be competing in the 5,000-meter run with Potrebic and Freimanis taking part in the heptathlon.
On Saturday, Potrebic qualified for the championships after recording 4,846 points and placed first in the heptathlon at the South Region Final Qualifier held by Shenandoah University. During the event, the senior set personal-best times in the 60-metr dash, 60-meter hurdles and 1,000-meter run, as well as total points in the heptathlon. He crossed the finish line in 7.20 seconds in the 60-meter dash, 9.14 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and 2:48.70 in the 1,000-meter run.
Freimanis enters the championships fourth after recording 5,092 points at his first collegiate meet, the Bison Open in early December.
Coyle recorded a school record time of 14:08.97 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the beginning of February and will enter the championships ranked 12th.
Coyle becomes the third Tartan to compete in the 5,000-meter run at the championships while Freimanis and Potrebic are the second and third to compete in the heptathlon.
