Freimanis Honored as UAA Rookie of the Year
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University freshman Luke Freimanis was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year. The honor is the first for the program since 2014.
Freimanis won the 60-meter hurdles in a UAA record time of 8.13 seconds.
The first-year Tartan also competed in the high jump, long jump, and ran the last leg of the 4x400-meter relay. He finished 11th in the high jump after clearing 1.79 meters, 13th in the long jump with a mark of 6.19 meters, while the relay finished seventh.
Freimanis is the fifth Tartan to earn UAA Rookie of the Year for the indoor season joining Andrew Chang (2014), Rai Walters (2016), Marvin Bennet Jr. (2018), and Justin Kiefel (2019).
Freimanis is currently fourth in the nation in the heptathlon and 20th in the 60-meter hurdles.
