Freimanis Wins 60-Meter Hurdles in UAA Record Time, Tartans Place Third at UAA Indoor Championships

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team placed third at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Chicago. The Tartans scored 100.5 points to finish behind Emory with 142.5 points and Chicago with 164 points.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • Freshman Luke Freimanis won the UAA title in the 60-meter hurdles with a UAA record time of 8.13 seconds while classmate Kurt Schimmel placed fifth in 8.57 seconds.
  • Senior Matthew Coyle placed second in the 3,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 8:26.19. Sophomore Ryan Podnar placed fourth also with a personal-best time of 8:29.84.
  • Freshman Devin Chang took fifth in the 60-meter dash as he crossed in 7.00 seconds.
  • Junior Bennett Wong crossed in 22.96 seconds in the 200-meter dash and placed sixth.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Junior Johnathan Crawshaw recorded a career-best throw of 15.10 meters in the shot put to place second.
  • Sophomore Atai Tahasan and senior Sebastian Sanso competed in the triple jump and finished fourth and sixth, respectively. Tahasan jumped a personal-best 14.12 meters while Sanso recorded a jump of 14.06 meters.
  • A fourth and sixth place showing also occurred in the pole vault with sophomore Solomon Glavach clearing 4.46 meters as well as freshman Lucas Knappenberger clearing at the same height.
