Freimanis Named UAA Field Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Freshman Luke Freimanis of the Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for field events following his performance at the Bucknell Bison Open over the weekend in the heptathlon.

In his first collegiate meet, Freimanis won the heptathlon with 5,092 points, the second most in program history. The freshman finished in the top three in six of the seven events. He won the long jump with a mark of 6.99 meters and the 60-meter hurdles with a school record time of 8.25. He placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.20 seconds, the 1,000-meter run crossing in 2:48.41 and in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.86 meters.

He currently ranks second nationally in the heptathlon and ninth in the 60-meter hurdles while ranking tops in the UAA in both events.

On Saturday, January 18, the Tartans will travel to Kent State University for the Jud Logan Memorial Meet.
