Men’s Track and Field Place Third at Westminster Invitational

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team placed third at the Westminster College Invitational on Saturday, April 16. The Tartans won two events to go with six other finishes in the top four for the meet.
Sophomore Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J.) won the hammer throw with a mark of 49.98 meters. The Tartans also picked up points in the hammer with fourth and seventh place finishes by freshman Kenny Sladick (Berea, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) and sophomore David Trzcinski (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty). Sladick's toss landed 42.48 meters while Trzcinski recorded a mark of 41.01 meters.  Sladick's toss was a career-best throws.

In the javelin sophomore Cameron Smith (Darien, Conn.) placed second with a career-best throw of 53.63 to place second. Freshman Rai Walters (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) placed third with a leap of 6.75 meters in the long jump.

Sophomore Ryan Auld (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a career-best time of 9:45.04. Junior Don Boyer (Dover Foxcroft, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) also recorded a career-best time on Saturday when he crossed the finish line with at time of 56.86 in the 400-meter hurdles to place third.
Freshman Jacob Halasowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chaple) took third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:47.92 and sophomore Evan Larrick (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) finished fifth in the 800-meter run crossing in 1:56.22.

Running at the Bucknell University Invitational, juniors Curtis Watro (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) and Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) both recorded career-best times.  Watro crossed the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:16.62 while Norley crossed in 3:54.74 in the 1,500-meter run.

The Tartans will next be in action at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 at Washington University St. Louis, Missouri.
