Tartans Place Fifth at UAA Championships
(CHICAGO, Ill.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team placed fifth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming and Diving Championships after the four-day meet concluded on Saturday, February 14 at the University of Chicago.
Top Performances
- Junior Jacob Quan placed 12th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:14.15 while junior Cole Venters placed 13th in 16:20.65 and freshman Trevan Valena placed 14th in 16:25.84.
- Sophomore Matvey Malinovski took third in the B Final of the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:50.38.
- Senior Arnav Deshpande won the B Final of the 100-yard freestyle in an NCAA qualifying time of 44.89.
- Senior Max Kulbida won the B Final of the 200-yard breaststroke with an NCAA qualifying time of 1:59.90. Junior Andy Lu swam in the same heat and placed eighth in 2:05.49.
- Freshman Tenmy Wangpo swam the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:47.62, placing fourth. Freshman Giulio Migliarina finished in 1:49.22, placing sixth. Both times were NCAA qualifying marks.
- The 400-yard freestyle relay of junior Brayden Morford, Malinovski, Deshpande, and sophomore Todd Dong closed the meet with a second-place showing in 2:56.86.
