Tartans Move Into Fourth Place at UAA Championships

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team finished the third day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday, February 13. The Tartans moved from fifth place to fourth and have 774.5 points for the meet.

Top Performances

  • Junior Nico Shuster placed sixth on the 1-meter diving board by scoring 408.5 points.
  • Junior Brayden Morford picked up two UAA medals by finishing second in the 100-yard butterfly in 46.95 to start the evening session and later placed third in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 47.27.
  • Freshman Tenmy Wangpo placed eighth in the 400-yard IM after touching the wall in 3:57.25 in the finals. His preliminary time of 3:55.95 was just off his season-best time.
  • Freshman Alex Luebke won the B Final of the 200-yard freestyle to lead the Tartans with a season-best and NCAA B Cut time of 1:38.97.
  • The 100-yard breaststroke had two Tartans in the A Final with junior Aaron Lee earning All-UAA status with a third-place finish in 54.27. Senior Max Kulbida was fifth in 54.48. Both times are career-bests and NCAA qualifying times.
  • The 200-yard medley relay of senior Arnav Deshpande, Lee, Morford, and freshman Noah Barrett closed the evening with a second-place showing in a time of 1:26.92.
