Tartans Top Calvin in Last Home Meet of the Season
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team hosted Calvin University for a dual meet to end the regular season and won 170-128.
Top Performances
- The 200-yard medley relay started the event with a winning swim of 1:30.04 from senior Arnav Deshpande, junior Aaron Lee, junior Brayden Morford, and sophomore Matthew Peitler.
- The men's 1,000-yard freestyle was next with junior Jacob Quan placing second with a time of 9:53.46, the second fastest time in school history and a personal record.
- Morford and freshman Max Gu went 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 1:41.54 and 1:42.61.
- Up next was the 100-yard breaststroke with senior Max Kulbida winning with a time of 57.43.
- In the 100-yard backstroke, Deshpande and sophomore Matvey Malinovski placed second and third with times of 52.04 and 52.68.
- Freshman Tenmy Wangpo won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:50.13. He was followed by teammates junior Henry Rosenhagen with a time of 1:53.90 and junior Austin Lanthrop with a time of 1:54.89.
- Peitler won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.57.
- In the one-meter diving event, junior Nico Shuster dominated the event with a score of 278.85, over 100 points ahead of the rest of his competition. He also won the three-meter dive with a score of 298.65, second place was over 130 points behind.
- Later, during the 100-yard freestyle, Peitler and Gu swam times of 45.31 and 47.12 to place second and third.
- Malinovski swam a 1:55.08 to place second in the 200-yard backstroke.
- Kulbida later won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:06.46.
- Up next, Quan won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:44.60.
- The 100-yard butterfly was won by Morford with a time of 49.02. In third was freshman Giulio Miglarina, finishing in 51.52.
- Wangpo and Gu swept the 200-yard IM with times of 1:54.13 and 1:54.81.
- The men's 200-yard freestyle relay of Morford, Peitler, freshman Noah Barrett, and Deshpande took second in 1:22.07.
