Tartans Top Gettysburg for Third Dual-Meet Win
(PITTSBURGH, Pa) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team won against Gettysburg College on Saturday, November 8 at home. The Tartans came out on top with a final score of 174-68.
Meet Highlights
- The Tartans swept six events.
- Junior Brayden Morford and freshman Tenmy Wangpo each won two events.
- Morford's time in the 100-yard backstroke is an NCAA B Cut time and pool record.
Inside the Results
- The 'A' team of Morford, junior Aaron Lee, freshman Giulio Migliarina, and freshman Noah Barrett won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:32.41, earning the team 11 points.
- CMU swept the 1,000-yard freestyle with junior Cole Venters taking first with a time of 9:52.42. Venters was followed by junior Jacob Quan in a time of 9:54.57 and freshman Andrew Chen in a time of 10:03.45.
- Sophomore Matvey Malinovski led a sweep of the 200-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:41.30. Freshman Alex Luebke was second in 1:43.73 while freshman Trevan Valena was third in 1:45.22.
- The Tartans also swept the 100-yard backstroke. Morford finished first with a time of 49.28, followed by freshman Max Gu with a time of 50.71 and junior Miles Haroldsson with a time of 52.40.
- Lee swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.95 to lead a sweep of the event. Senior Max Kulbida was second in 57.91 with sophomore Daniel Baytin taking third in 58.24.
- Wangpo won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:51.54. Migliarina was second with a time of 1:54.02, followed by junior Austin Lathrop in third with a time of 1:56.31.
- Barrett and sophomore Todd Dong went one and two in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 21.08 and 21.37, respectively.
- Malinovski won his second event of the day with a time of 1:50.24 in the 200-yard backstroke. Gu was second in 1:53.08.
- Kulbida earned a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.43. Junior Andy Lu was second in 2:09.59 and junior Jerry Chu was third in 2:11.38.
- Quan dominated the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:45.04, more than 10 seconds faster than the runner up.
- Morford touched first in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 49.52 for his second win of the day.
- Wangpo collected his second win of the day in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:59.30.
- Junior Nico Shuster earned 330.46 points on the 3-meter diving board and 299.03 points on the 1-meter board to meet his first qualifying scores of the season.
