Nine Victories, Including Three Sweeps Lead Tartans Past Case Western Reserve
(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team traveled to compete against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, November 1. The Tartans came out on top with a final score of 159-135.
Inside the Results
- The 'A' team of sophomore Matvey Malinovski, junior Aaron Lee, junior Brayden Morford, and sophomore Matthew Peitler won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:31.57, earning the team 11 points.
- Junior Jacob Quan was the runner-up in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:55.07. Quan also earned third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:43.09.
- Morford won the 200-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:40.58.
- Freshman Max Gu and Malinovski earned second and third in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in times of 51.23 and 51.29, respectively.
- Junior Andy Lu swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.90 to place second. Lu also took second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:07.68.
- Freshman Tenmy Wangpo won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.60. Freshman Giulio Migliarina placed third with a time of 1:54.22.
- Migliarina was also the top finisher in the 100-yard butterfly with his time of 50.33. Barrett followed in third place with a time of 51.53.
- Peitler and Barrett went one and two in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 20.45 and 21.29, respectively.
- Peitler also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.04. Gu's time of 46.56 put him in the runner-up position.
- The Tartans swept the top three places in the 200-yard backstroke. Malinovski took the top of the podium with a time of 1:50.32, Wangpo was second in 1:51.39, and freshman Otis Tsai was third in 1:56.73.
- The Tartans also swept the 200-yard IM. Wangpo was first with a time of 1:52.90. Gu was second in 1:53.22, and Morford was third in 1:52.32.
- The Tartan's 'A' team of Peitler, sophomore Todd Dong, Barrett, and Morford won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:23.67 to close the meet.
- Junior Nico Shuster placed second on the 1-meter diving board with 253.40 points and third on the 3-meter board with 217.75 points.
