Tartans Earn Three All-America Honors on Final Day of NCAAs; Place Sixth Overall and Break Two School Records

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) – The Carnegie Mellon men's swimming and diving team ended competition at the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Saturday, March 22. The Tartans placed sixth overall and recorded three additional All-America honors on the last day while setting two school records.

Top Performances

  • Freshman Matthew Peitler broke his own school record in the 100-yard freestyle, earning fifth place with a time of 43.63 and earned All-America honors.
  • Senior Christian Lanuza garnered All-America honors when he placed eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:59.62. Lanuza's prelims performance of 1:58.34 broke his own school record that he set last year at the NCAA meet.
  • Sophomore Brayden Morford, Malinovski, Peitler, and graduate student Frank Jones earned fourth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:57.71 to achieve All-America distinction.
  • Freshman Matvey Malinovski swam the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:47.82, placing 14th.

Notes

  • The sixth-place finish for the Tartans is the highest since 2005 when they placed sixth. It is also tied for the fourth-highest finish in program history.
  • Morford ended the championships with seven All-America honors including three national titles: 200-yard IM, 100-yard backstroke and 400-yard medley relay.
  • Joining Morford as a national champion in the 400-yard medley relay were junior Arnav Deshpande, Lanuza and Peitler.
  • The Tartans earned nine All-America honors (five individual and four relays) throughout the championships.

    Arnav Deshpande - 400-yard medley relay (1st), 200-yard medley relay (3rd), 200-yard freestyle relay (4th)
