Morford Earns Fourth UAA Swimmer of the Week Award
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Brayden Morford has been named the Univesity Athletic Association Men's Swimmer of the Week for the fourth time this season after a school-record performance at then Kenyon College Fast Chance Invitational on Saturday, February 22.
Morford topped Chris Pearson's school record in the 200-yard freestyle set in 2004 by touching first in 1:37.27, which was 13 hundredths of a second faster than Pearson and more than a second faster than his own previous best. His time in the event is now seventh best in the nation. He also swam the 100-yard breaststroke and finished in a personal-best time of 54.33 which is 12th best in the nation.
Morford has already assured his invitation to the NCAA Championship meet in March by sitting first in the nation in three events, the 200-yard IM, the 100-yard backstroke, and the 100-yard butterfly.
