Lindstrom Places Third on 1M Board to Kickoff UAA Championships
(ATLANTA, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team started the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Wednesday, February 12 at Emory University with the 800-yard freestyle relay and 1-meter diving.
Senior Jonathan Lindstrom earned All-UAA status with a third-place finish on the 1-meter springboard with a career-best 463.97 points. It marked the second straight year Lindstrom placed third in the event. Sophomore Nico Shuster just missed the finals round and placed ninth with a score of 384.45.
The Tartans placed sixth in the distance freestyle event behind the swims of graduate student Santiago Gomez, sophomore Cole Venters, sophomore Richard Chung, and sophomore Brayden Morford. The team finished the race in 6:40.79 for its best time of the season.
The second relay group of freshman Matvey Malinovski, freshman Philip Thayer, junior David Zoota, and senior Christian Lanuza touched in 6:47.39 to place fifth in their heat to earn 28 points.
The Tartans are currently in fifth place with 123 points while New York University leads the field with 145 points.
Day two of the four-day meet will have the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle relay, and the 400-yard medley relay.
