Bio

Six-year coaching veteran Ethan Stewart-Smith joined the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball coaching staff as the full-time assistant coach in September 2014.  Stewart-Smith will also serve as the Tartans' recruiting coordinator.

Stewart-Smith comes to Carnegie Mellon from Dickinson College, where he served as the men's assistant coach for five seasons.  During his time on the Red Devils' staff the team made two NCAA Tournament appearances, appeared in three Centennial Conference Championship games and won one conference title.

"I am delighted to add Ethan to our staff.  He is an experienced young coach with extensive background in teaching and recruiting, and he was instrumental in Dickinson's NCAA tournament runs the past two years," said Wingen.  "Coach Stewart-Smith is really connected in the camp scene, as he has a great understanding of recruiting students in a highly competitive academic environment."

Prior to coaching the Red Devils, he served one season as an assistant coach at Penn State Altoona, his alma mater, where he graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business with a concentration in marketing and management.

Stewart-Smith has been an instructor at the prestigious Hoop Group camps and Keystone State Games since 2009.  He also has appeared at individual and team camps across the east coast.

As an undergraduate at Altoona, Stewart-Smith was a four-year starter and letter winner as the point guard for the Lions.  He was an all-conference selection as a junior and finished his playing career ranked as the school's second all-time leader in both assists and steals.

Stewart-Smith also worked for two years as the Director of the Ticket Office for the State College Spikes, the Pittsburgh Pirates single A affiliate, and interned with the Altoona Curve, the Pirates AA affiliate.
