Allen and Holmes Named All-UAA

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball players were named to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Team when the league announced its postseason accolades on Wednesday. Junior Justin Allen lands a spot on the first team while graduate student R.J. Holmes was named to the honorable mention team. This marks Allen's second straight first team appearance while this is the fourth time Holmes has been recognized on the All-UAA team.

Allen started all 25 games this season and led the UAA in scoring for the second straight season as he averaged 25.4 points per game which ranked fourth nationally. Allen scored double figures in all 25 contests while recording 20 or more points on 17 occasions and 30 seven times. The junior broke the single-season school record for points scored when he dropped 50 points in the Tartans win over Dickinson while also setting the school record for most three-pointers made in a contest with nine. For the second straight season Allen set the program's single-season record for points scored and points per game. He scored 635 points this season topping his total of 557 points last season. Allen became the 22nd Tartan to score 1,000 points for his career and currently ranks third on the schools all-time scoring list with 1,483 points.

Holmes led the Cardinal and Gray with 9.4 rebounds per contest for the fourth straight season and ranked second best in the UAA while he led the league in defensive rebounds averaging 8.0. He was second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.0 points and ranked 11th in the UAA. The graduate student ended the season tops on the team and second in the UAA in field goal percentage converting 54.5% of his shots. Holmes registered the double-digit point mark in 20 contests while he tabbed nine double-double contests. He ends his career ranking fourth all-time in program history with 1,399 points, fourth in rebounding with 856 rebounds and fourth in blocks with 152 for his career. Holmes became the fifth Tartan to record 1,000 points and 800 rebounds in a career.
