Holmes Honored by UAA

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball graduate student R.J. Holmes was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week. Holmes led the Tartans to a 1-1 UAA weekend with both games on the road.

Holmes averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game while he shot 64.0% (16-25) from the floor. He also converted 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Holmes started the weekend recording his ninth double-double of the season and 31st of his career in a setback at #2 NYU. He recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds against the Violets. The graduate student then followed with a season-best 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds in a 91-83 victory at Brandeis. Holmes broke an 81-81 score with a jumper at the 2:47 mark of the second half to give the Tartans the lead for good.

The Tartans will end the regular season on Saturday, March 1, with a 1:00 p.m. tip against Case Western Reserve University.
