(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University Department of Athletics finished 16th in the 2025-26 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). This is the second straight year Carnegie Mellon finished 16th and fifth consecutive year to finish in the top 16 in the 31-year history of the Learfield Directors’ Cup, as the Tartan ended this year with 699.00 points. Prior to five years ago, Carnegie Mellon’s highest finish was 23rd following the 2017-18 school year. The Tartans are one of five University Athletic Association institutions to crack the top 20 in the standings.

Carnegie Mellon received its points from scoring in 11 championships – four fall, four winter and four spring. In the fall, the Tartans earned 247.50 points after four teams qualified for their respective NCAA Championships (men’s and women’s cross country, women’s soccer and volleyball). The winter season saw the Tartans claim 154.00 points. Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams placed at the NCAA Championship meet as did the men’s indoor track and field team.

The spring had the Cardinal and Gray earn 297.5 points. The women’s golf team placed second at the NCAA Division III Championship as the men’s golf team recorded an eighth place showing at the national event. The women’s tennis team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship with the men’s tennis team making it to the third round.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
