Carnegie Mellon Athletics Finishes 16th in Final Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University Department of Athletics finished 16th in the 2024-25 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Carnegie Mellon totaled 720.50 points to record its fourth straight finish in the top 16 in the 30-year history of the Learfield Directors’ Cup. Prior to four years ago, Carnegie Mellon’s highest finish was 23rd following the 2017-18 school year. The Tartans are one of five University Athletic Association institutions to crack the top 20 in the standings.

Carnegie Mellon received its points from scoring in 12 championships – five fall, four winter and three spring. In the fall, the Tartans earned 279.0 points after five teams qualified for their respective NCAA Championships (men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s soccer and volleyball). The winter season saw the Tartans claim 212.50 points. Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams placed at the NCAA Championship meet as the men’s and indoor track and field team while the women’s basketball team competed in the NCAA tournament.

The spring had the Cardinal and Gray earn 229.0 points. The women’s golf team placed second at the NCAA Division III Championship as the men’s golf team recorded a fifth place showing at the national event. The women’s tennis team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championship.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
