(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University freshman Heather Holton (Haslett, Mich./Haslett) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Volleyball Athlete of the Week and Corvias Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Rookie of the Week following her performance this past weekend as the Tartans went 2-0 and improved their record to 11-3 for the season.
Holton had one of her best games to date in the Tartans' 3-0 sweep of No. 20 DePauw University on Sunday, September 28. The first-year player hit .440 with 12 kills and just one error in 25 attempts. She was also big defensively with a career-high 11 digs and two block assists. She followed that performance with nine kills and a hitting percentage of .368 in a 3-0 sweep against The College of Wooster.
The Tartans enter UAA play this weekend when they travel to Atlanta, Georgia for three matches. They open the first round robin against the University of Rochester at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday before facing Case Western Reserve University at 4:00 p.m. The team's final match of the weekend will be against host and third-ranked Emory University on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Emory will be the third ranked opponent for Carnegie Mellon this year as the Tartans are currently 2-0 in those matches.
