  • Courtney Brant Flips into Success

    In a room filled with excited people on a cold fall afternoon in November, a video clip of sophomore Courtney Brant’s acrobatic flip throw was met with loud cheers as the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Selection Show opened its national broadcast. A few minutes later, the Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team found out that it had made school history with its first-ever invite to the national tournament.

    While millions of hockey fans wait on the sidelines for their favorite sport to return, Mary Wall (CIT ’98, DC ’99) is skating around Buffalo with a camera in her hand. The former women’s soccer captain has been spending her days and nights directing, producing and writing a documentary about something near and dear to her heart – Buffalo Sabres fans.
  • Simicich Named to 2012 D3Soccer.com All-America Team

    Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer sophomore Lauren Simicich (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) was named to the 2012 D3Soccer.com Women's All-America Team when the site announced it's award winners for the season. Simicich played center back for the Tartans who finished the season in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship, the best finish in the program's history.
  • Struble Named Regional Coach of the Year; Two Selected to All-Great Lakes Team

    Following the Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team’s record-setting season, head coach Yon Struble along with sophomores Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) and Lauren Simicich (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on the 2012 NCAA Division III Women All-Great Lakes Region Team. Struble’s honor is the first for a Carnegie Mellon women’s soccer coach while this is the fourth year in program history two Tartans have been named all-region.
  • Albi Earns Third UAA Athlete of the Week Award

    Carnegie Mellon University junior goalkeeper Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) was named University Athletic Association Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Tartans' third round and quarterfinal games of the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship over the weekend. Albi garnered the award after earning two shutouts in net for the Tartans.
  • Tartans Complete Season in NCAA Quarterfinal

    The Carnegie Mellon University and Emory University women's soccer teams played to another scoreless tie, this time in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship on Sunday, November 18. The Eagles won the penalty kick shootout 11-10 to advance to the national semifinal.

    Carnegie Mellon University junior Alex Venegas's (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) two-goal game led the Tartans to a 3-0 win in the third round of the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pa. The #17 Tartans defeated #25 Wheaton (Mass.) College to advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women’s soccer team continues its best season in program history on Saturday, November 17 in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship. The Tartans are ranked 17th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll and make the program’s first appearance in the sectional semifinals when they face Wheaton (Mass.) College at 1:30 p.m. on their home field in Pittsburgh, Pa. The #17 Tartans have a record of 13-1-4 while the #25 Lyons boast an 18-1-6 mark.

    Carnegie Mellon University senior Mitra Ebrahimi (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) was named Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week by the University Athletic Association (UAA) for her performance in the Tartans' two NCAA victories, the first in program history, over the weekend in Pittsburgh.
  • Carnegie Mellon Selected to Host Women’s Soccer NCAA Sectional

    Carnegie Mellon University will once again serve as host for the 2012 NCAA Division III Women’s Championship as the Tartan women’s soccer team advanced to the third round with a 1-0 win over Ohio Northern University on Sunday, November 11. The third round of the NCAA Championship is set to begin on Saturday, November 17 with two games at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. as the quarterfinal will be played on Sunday, November 18 at 1:30 p.m.
  • Tartans March On, Defeat Ohio Northern 1-0 in NCAA Second Round

    The #17 Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team defeated visiting Ohio Northern University 1-0 on Sunday, November 11 in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship in front of an enthusiastic crowd on the Pittsburgh campus. An early first half goal held up for the Tartans who advance to the third round and won their second-ever NCAA postseason game.
  • #17 Tartans Win First-Ever NCAA Game 5-0 Over Cabrini

    Senior Brianna Magill (Oak Brook, Ill./Downers Grove North) scored twice as the Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team won its first-ever NCAA tournament game on Saturday, November 10 in front of a home crowd on the Carnegie Mellon campus. The Tartans defeated Cabrini College 5-0 to advance to the second round of the 2012 Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team was rewarded for its second-place finish in the University Athletic Association (UAA) as six players were named to the All-Association team, with freshman Louisa Pendergast (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak) garnering UAA Rookie of the Year honors. The coaching staff was also honored as UAA Women’s Soccer Coaching Staff of the Year.

The Tartans earned the program's first-ever bid to the championship after placing second in the University Athletic Association with an overall record of 11-1-4.

    Carnegie Mellon University junior keeper Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) was named Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week by the University Athletic Association (UAA) for her performance in leading the 19th-ranked Tartans to a 1-0-1 UAA weekend. The Tartans started the weekend with a 0-0 tie at New York University before defeating Brandeis University 4-0 Sunday, October 28.
  • #21 Tartans Score Four in Road Shutout Win

    The final touch didn't elude the Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team on Sunday in a 4-0 win against Brandeis University much like it didn't in a scoreless tie at New York on Friday. The #21 Tartans are now 11-1-3 overall and are 4-1-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Judges fall to 12-4-2 and 1-3-2.

    Despite an offensively dominating game by the Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team, the Tartans played to a 0-0 draw on the road at New York University on Friday afternoon in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. The tie now puts the Tartans at 3-1-1 in the UAA and 10-1-3 overall while the Violets are 9-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the UAA.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team traveled north to Grove City College for a non-conference match against the Wolverines on Thursday, October 18 for a rescheduled contest from September and came home with a 3-1 victory after a rainy afternoon. The #21 Tartans are now 10-1-2 on the year while the Wolverines are 11-3-1.
  • #24 Tartans Win Third Straight UAA Game

    The #24 Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team won its third straight contest in University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Sunday, October 14 when it defeated visiting Case Western Reserve University 3-1. The Tartans advance to 9-1-2 on the season and 3-1 in the UAA while the Spartans fall to 7-4-3 and 1-2-1 in the UAA.
  • #24 Tartans Dominate Rochester in 1-0 Win

The 24th-ranked Tartans improved to 8-1-2 and 2-1 in the University Athletic Association with the win while the Yellowjackets fell to 3-9 and 0-3.
  • Women’s Soccer’s Success Lands Them in National Rankings

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team received national recognition by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) following its successful start to the 2012 season. The Tartans enter the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III national rankings in the 24th spot after receiving votes the previous two weeks.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team traveled west to Chicago, Illinois, for a Saturday afternoon match against the University of Chicago and came home a 2-1 winner after two strikes by sophomore Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) in the second half. The Tartans improve to 7-1-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the University Athletic Association as the Maroons drop to 7-4 and 0-2.

    In honor of its silver anniversary, the University Athletic Association has announced its 25th Anniversary Women’s Soccer Team. Fifty-seven student-athletes earned the honor, including four from Carnegie Mellon.
  • Tartans Tripped Up at Home by #11 Washington

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team welcomed #11 Washington University to Pittsburgh on Sunday, September 30 to open University Athletic Association play. The Bears were able to withstand the Tartans pressure to win the game 3-0 and improve to 9-1 on the year. The Tartans suffered their first loss of the season and now sit at 6-1-2.
