(NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play at the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday. The Tartans shot a team score of 307 on the par-72, 7,190-yard Champion Trace Course at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky in are in 16th in a field of 42 teams following the first 18 holes. Illinois Wesleyan University leads the championships after the opening round of play with a one-under-par 287.
Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) carded a two-over par 74 to lead the Tartans on Tuesday and currently is tied for 30th individually in a field of 216 golfers. Sophomore Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and freshman Henry Scavone (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) both fired rounds of 76 in the opening round.
Play resumes Wednesday, as the Tartans will play the Keene Run Course. The Tartans tee times are set to begin at 7:30 a.m. with Lin the first out on the par-72, 6,897-yard course. Following Wednesday's round, the field will be pared to 18 teams and the top six individuals. The final two days of action will take place on the Champion Trace Course.
