  • Golf Team Leads Division III in Classroom For 2013-14 Season

    The Carnegie Mellon University golf team was awarded top academic honors for Division III when the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its winners for the 2013-14 academic year presented by Farmers Insurance. The Tartans finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.70, as five players turned in 4.0’s. This marks the second time the Tartans have claimed the top honor for Division III, as they placed first with a 3.62 GPA in 2009-10.

    As a freshman coming into the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf program, George Qian brought his experiences with the game of golf not only from his hometown of Bettendorf, Iowa, but also from the Western Academy of Beijing.
  • Three Land on CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team

    Three Carnegie Mellon University athletes have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on the Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team for both the men and the women with two being honored for the second straight year. Senior tennis athlete Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) is joined by senior golfer Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) on the first team while sophomore Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) found a spot on the second team.
  • Three Tartans Elected to Prestigious Academic Honor Society

    Three Tartans were inducted into Carnegie Mellon University’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa earlier this month. Women's tennis player Katie Cecil, women’s track and field hurdler Kelsey Hallinen and men’s golfer Ian Bangor were selected to the nation's most prestigious undergraduate academic honor society.
  • Nick Dunn Named Men’s Golf Coach

    Carnegie Mellon University Director of Athletics Josh Centor has named Nick Dunn head men’s golf coach. Dunn will replace 29-year veteran Rich Erdelyi, who announced his retirement in the fall to take place at the conclusion of this season. Dunn will also serve as the assistant women’s golf coach which will play on the varsity level starting in the fall of 2014. Dunn will officially start his duties at the beginning of the fall season.
  • CoSIDA Recognizes Bangor for Third Time

    For the third straight season Carnegie Mellon University senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy), a member of men's golf, was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.
  • Bangor and Qian Receive Postseason Accolades

    Two Carnegie Mellon University men’s golfers have been recognized for their play on the course his past season. Senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and freshman George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) were both named to the 2014 PING Mid-Atlantic Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. This marks Bangor’s fourth straight season accomplishing the honor. The senior also was named a Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for the second straight season while Qian was named to the All-Freshman Team given to the top first-year golfer in each of the six regions.
  • Tartans Take Second at Vulcan Invitational

    The Carnegie Mellon University golf team competed in the one-day, 36-hole, Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University of Pennsylvania at the Cedarbrook Golf Course, Saturday, April 19. The Tartans carded team scores of 318 and 301 to finish second out of seven teams with a 619.
  • Bangor Leads Tartans to Third at Edward Jones Shootout

    At the final day of the Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 13, the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team shot a 301 on day two to place third. The Tartans ended the 36-hole event with a team score of 599. Allegheny won the two-day event that was held at the par-70, The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. with a team score of 591.
  • Tartans in Second After Day One of Edward Jones Shootout

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team hosted the first day of the annual Edward Jones Shootout Saturday, April 12 at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. The Tartans are currently in second-place after play on Saturday, as they fired a team score of 298 on the par-70 course.
  • Tartans Place Sixth at The Hershey Cup

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed in the final round of The Hershey Cup on Monday, April 7 and finished with a 36-hole total of 632 (313-319) to place sixth out of 15 teams. The two-day event hosted by the University of Rochester was played on the par-71, East Course at Hershey Country Club.

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team currently is tied for seventh-place at the 15-team Hershey Cup after play on Sunday, April 6. The Tartans fired a team score of 313 on the par-71, East Course at Hershey Country Club Sunday afternoon. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by the University of Rochester.
  • Tartans Finish Play at Jekyll Island Invitational

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team finished 22nd out of 30 teams at the 15th Annual Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational Sunday, March 16. The three-day, 54-hole event was held at the par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island. The Tartans finished with a 54-hole team score of 920 after carding a 315 Sunday afternoon.
  • Qian Continues to Lead Tartans at Jekyll Island Invitational

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the second day of the 2014 Jekyll Island Invitational Saturday, March 15. The Tartans are currently in 16th place after 36-holes of play with a two-round total of 605 (303-302). The three-day event is being played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.
  • Golf Sits in 14th After First Round of Jekyll Island Invitational

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is tied for 14th with Skidmore College following the first round of the 15th Annual Jekyll Collegiate Invitational played on Friday, March 14. The Tartans turned in a team score of 303 in a field of 30 teams which includes seven of the nation’s top 10 teams in Division III. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.
  • Carnegie Mellon Finishes Third at UAA Golf Championships; Coaching Staff Honored

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team placed third at the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Monday, March 10. The Tartans carded a final round team score of 293 after carding a 302 in the opening round Sunday to finish with a 36-hole total of 595. Carnegie Mellon hosted the two-day event at the Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida.
  • Low Leads Tartans After First Day of UAA Championships

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is in third place at the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships following the first 18 holes of play. On Sunday, March 9 the Tartans fired a team score of 302. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played at the Red Tail Golf Course in Sorrento, Fla. on the 6,768-yard, par-72 course hosted by Carnegie Mellon.
  • Bangor to Participate 2013 Patriot All-America Tournament

    Senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team will participate in the 54-hole Patriot All-America Tournament December 29-31. Bangor is one of the 84 collegians in the field of The Patriot All-America Invitational. The third annual tournament will be played on the par-71 Gold Course at The Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
  • Rich Erdelyi Announces His Retirement

    Carnegie Mellon University offensive coordinator and head men’s golf coach Rich Erdelyi has announced his retirement after 29 years at the university, effective June 30.

  • Bangor Wins Third Straight Carnegie Mellon Fall Invitational

    For the third straight season, senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) was crowned the top individual medalist at the annual Carnegie Mellon University Fall Invitational. Bangor’s even par 70 led the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team to a first-place team finish at the invitational Thursday, October 10 at the Longue Vue Club as the team carded a 302. Bangor's top finish marked the 10th medalist honor of his career.
  • Alumnus Alex Timmons Gets Fit for a Cause

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team ended the Mercyhurst University Fall Invitational with a team score of 610 to place second at the two-day, 36-hole event that finished play on Monday. The University of Toronto had the won the vent with a score of 584 on the par 72 Lake View Country Club.

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team currently is in second-place following the first round of the Mercyhurst University Invitational that was played on Sunday, September 29. The Tartans fired a team score of 298 on the par-72 course at Lake View Country Club. The University of Toronto had the low team round of the day with a 287.

    Sophomore Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Golf Athlete of the Week after his performance at the 40th Annual Guy W. Kuhn Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College which concluded Monday September 16.
  • DuCarme Leads Tartans to First-Place Finish at Guy Kuhn Invitational

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed in the final round of the two-day, 36-hole annual Guy W. Kuhn Invitational hosted at the par 72 The Country Club of Meadville by Allegheny College. The Tartans maintained their three-stroke lead following the first 18 holes to win the team championship with a score of 603.

  • Golf Places Second at Hal Hansen Invitational

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the final day of the Hal Hansen Invitational Monday, September 9 and fired a team score of 298 finishing with 36-hole score of 598. Clarion University was the host on the par 72 Clarion Oaks Golf Club. The Tartans 598 placed them second and was the fourth-best two-round team total in school history.

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the first day of the Hal Hansen Invitational Sunday afternoon hosted at the par 72 Clarion Oaks Golf Club by Clarion University. The Tartans are tied for second-place following the first 18 holes of the invitational. As a team, the Cardinal and Gray are tied with California (Pa.) after carding a 300.
