  • Men’s Golf Team Receives Academic Accolades for 2012-13 Season

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team was one of 28 NCAA Division III institutions in receiving the All-Academic Team award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Tartans finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.38 finishing as one of the top Division III institutions.
  • Bangor Named PING Third Team All-American

    Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf became the second golfer in school history to be named an All-American. Bangor was recognized on the NCAA Division III PING All-America third team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

  • Bangor Named Academic All-District for Second Straight Season

    For the second straight season, Carnegie Mellon University junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy), a member of men’s golf, was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.
  • DuCarme and Bangor Named PING Mid-Atlantic All-Region; Bangor Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar

    The Carnegie Mellon University golf team had two members named to the 2013 PING Mid-Atlantic Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) became the 10th and 11th Tartans to be honored as all-region. This marks Bangor’s third straight season accomplishing the honor. He was also was named a Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.

    Carnegie Mellon University junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of men’s golf competed in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships on Wednesday, May 15. Bangor missed the cut after 36 holes of the championships which are being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Florida hosted by Methodist University.
  • Bangor Competes in First Round at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships

    Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. Bangor fired a seven-over par 79 on Tuesday, May 14 in the opening round. The championship is being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Florida hosted by Methodist University.

    When the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Committee selected individuals to partake in the 2013 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships, Carnegie Mellon University junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) was chosen to compete May 14-17 at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, in Destin, Fla., hosted by Methodist University.

  • Men’s Golf Wins Last Outing of Season

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team hosted their Annual Invitational Thursday, April 25 at the Longue Vue Country Club. The Tartans placed first with a team score of 315, one stroke ahead of Division II California University of Pennsylvania. The Tartans entered a second team into the invitational, as they finished third with a score of 324.
  • Tartans Take Second at the Doug Rogers Memorial Golf Tournament

    Carnegie Mellon University golf team finished second at the Doug Rogers Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by Saint Vincent at the Arnold Palmer's Latrobe Country Club. The Tartans carded a 322 on the par-72 course as the host Bearcats won the tournament with a score of 315.
  • Tartans Place Fourth at Edward Jones Shootout

    At the final day of the Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 14, the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team shot a 306 on day two to place fourth. The Tartans ended the 36-hole event with a team score of 618. Point Park won the two-day event that was held at the par-70, The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. with a team score of 600.
  • Bangor Tied for Lead After Day One of Edward Jones Shootout

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team hosted the first day of the annual Edward Jones Shootout Saturday, April 13 at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. Following the first round, the Tartans are in fourth-place after they fired a team score of 312 on the par-70 course.
  • Tartans Place Third at Hershey Cup

    At the final day of the Hershey Cup, the Carnegie Mellon University golf team improved 19 strokes from day one to finish with a 36-hole total of 617 (318-299) to place third out of 15 teams. The two-day event hosted by the University of Rochester was played on the par-71, East Course at Hershey Country Club
  • DuCarme Top Tartan at First Round of Hershey Cup

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is in fourth-place at the 15-team Hershey Cup following the first round of play in the 36-hole tournament. On Sunday, the Tartans fired a team score of 318 on the par-71, East Course at Hershey Country Club. The two-day event is being hosted by the University of Rochester.
  • Carnegie Mellon Opens Indoor Golf Facility

    When the Carnegie Mellon golf program headed south to play its first tournaments of the spring, the Tartans were much further along than they’ve been in the past. No longer restricted by the Pittsburgh winter, the men’s golf team has been busy playing top courses from all across the country on the state-of-the-art simulator in its new indoor facility.
  • Tartans Led by Bangor at Jekyll Island Invitational

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team finished 25th out of 30 teams at the 2013 Jekyll Island Invitational Sunday, March 17. The three-day, 54-hole event was held at the par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island. The Tartans finished with a 54-hole team score of 948 after carding a 318 Sunday afternoon.
  • Tartans Make Cut at Jekyll Island Invitational

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the second day of the 2013 Jekyll Island Invitational Saturday, March 16. The Tartans made the cut as they are tied with Birmingham Southern for 22nd place after 36-holes of play with a two-round total of 630. The three-day event is played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island. The top 24 teams advanced to the third round of play.
  • Tartans Compete in First Round of Jekyll Island Invitational

    Just three days after placing second at the UAA Championships, the Carnegie Mellon University golf team continued its strong start to the spring season at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Friday, March 15. The Tartans turned in a team score of 313 and are currently tied with Hampden Sydney for 21st place in a field that includes 12 of the top 25 Division III teams in the country.
  • Bangor Places Second at UAA Championship After Playoff

    Carnegie Mellon University junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) helped lead the Tartan men's golf team to a second-place tie at the University Athletic Association Championship on Monday, March 11 at Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Florida. Bangor tied for the top spot but fell at the second playoff hole to three-time individual medalist Nicholas Palladino of University of Rochester.
  • Tartans Lead UAA Championship After First Day

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team leads the University Athletic Association Championship by two strokes after carding a first round score of 310 on a sunny afternoon with 20-30 mph winds. The championship is being played at the Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Fla. on the 6,768-yard, par-72 course.
  • Golf Alum Jason Lawrence (CIT ’01) Making Big Impact at the University of Virginia

    After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, Jason Lawrence (CIT ’01) decided that he never wanted to leave the confines of a college campus. Following his time in Pittsburgh, the former golf standout headed to Princeton University, where he received his PhD in computer science in 2006. That same year, he accepted a position on the faculty at the University of Virginia and has remained in Charlottesville since then as an associate professor in the department of computer science.

    Ian Bangor is a captain for the 2012-13 Carnegie Mellon golf team. Bangor is a junior and majoring in business. Bangor leads the Tartans with a scoring average of 72.1 after the fall season. The junior is a two-time PING Mid-Atlantic Region team honoree and also holds the school record for the most career wins with seven.

    Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) carded his fourth round under 70 this season in leading the Carnegie Mellon University golf team to a first-place team finish at its Fall Invitational Thursday, October 11 at the Longue Vue Club. Bangor's one-under par 69 won him top individual medalist, as the Tartans turned in a team score of 308.

    The Carnegie Mellon University golf team competed in the 54-hole two-day, Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University of Pennsylvania at the Cedarbrook Golf Course, September 29-30. The Tartans carded a school record three-round team score of 893 to place fifth out of 16 teams and the top Division II school.

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed in the second round of the two-day annual Guy W. Kuhn Invitational hosted at The Country Club of Meadville by Allegheny College. After carding a team round of 299 Sunday, the Tartans fired a team score of 306 on Monday for a 36-hole score of 605 placing fourth in the field of 15 teams.
  • Golf Places Fifth at Hal Hansen Invitational
    September 10, 2012
    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the final day of the 36-hole Hal Hansen Invitational Monday, September 10 and fired a team score of 300 finishing with a team score of 602. Clarion University was the host on the par 72 Clarion Oaks Golf Club. The Tartans 602 tied them for fifth-place with Millersville as it also tied the fifth-best two-round team total in school history.
