Tartans Score on Every Possession in 70-29 Win at Dickinson
(CARLISLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University football team traveled to Carlisle, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon to play Dickinson College in a Centennial Conference (CC) contest. The Tartans scored a touchdown on all 10 possessions and left Carlisle with a 70-29 victory to move to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Dickinson is now 4-4, 2-3.

How it Happened
- Carnegie Mellon took the opening kickoff and marched 65 yards on 11 plays and took a 7-0 lead off a 1-yard touchdown run by freshman Mark Wamhoff.
- Dickinson answered with a 12-play, 75-yard drive and knotted the score at 7-all with 4:59 to play in the first quarter when Ben Klassen connected with Kevin Schmidt on a 4-yard touchdown toss.
- A second 1-yard touchdown run by Wamhoff on the ensuing possession gave the Tartans a 14-7 lead with 28 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The score capped off another 11-play drive that went 62 yards.
- With 8:46 left in the half, a 3-yard touchdown run by senior Joey McGinnis IV pushed the Tartans lead to 21-7. The score capped off a 12-play, 83-yard drive that took 4:57 off the clock.
- At the 3:50 mark of the second quarter, the Tartans made it four straight possessions to open the game with a touchdown. A third 1-yard run by Wamhoff made the score 28-7 after the converted PAT by senior placekicker Justin Caputo.
- Before the end of the half, Dickinson put together a 75-yard, nine-play drive that resulted in a 6-yard touchdown run by Dane Sorensen that made the score 28-14 with 1:24 to play.
- The Tartans weren't finished with their scoring in the first half. The Cardinal and Gray two-minute offense used 10 plays to go 78 yards in 1:07 and scored on all five of their possessions in the first 30 minutes when McGinnis IV connected with sophomore Carter Sheets on a 15-yard touchdown strike that closed the scoring at 35-14 for the first half.
- Dickinson opened the second half with a 75-yard, five-play drive that ended with a 57-yard touchdown catch-and-run by Leon Friebel from Klassen to make the score 35-21.
- A fourth rushing touchdown by Wamhoff, a 3-yard run, with 7:55 to play in the third quarter made the score 42-21.
- An interception by Tartan junior Ethan Ming in the Dickinson endzone led to the Tartans seventh straight scoring drive. Carnegie Mellon extended its lead to 49-21 on a 2-yard touchdown pass from McGinnis IV to senior Willem Bouma with the clock showing 1:33 left in the third quarter.
- On Dickinson's next possession, a recovered fumble by Ming around midfield setup the Tartans next score. The Tartans needed five plays, as senior Shadrak Agyei ran around the left edge and went 24 yards for a touchdown which made the score 56-21.
- Sorensen scored his second 6-yard touchdown of the afternoon with 10:48 to play and following the two-point conversion after a bad snap the score stood at 56-29.
- A 5-yard touchdown run by Tartans graduate student Jake Langdon with 4:35 that made the score 63-29.
- Freshman David Fred added a late touchdown for the Tartans to close the scoring at 70-29. Friebel had seven receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown.
Stats
- Carnegie Mellon totaled 664 yards of total offense while Dickinson totaled 352.
- McGinnis IV accounted for 375 yards. The senior converted 25-of-32 for 256 yards passing and two touchdowns. He also recorded his second career 100-yard rushing game as he ended with 121 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown.
- Sheets turned in a career day with nine receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown.
- Junior Reece Kolke finished the afternoon with seven catches for 75 yards.
- Senior Giacomo Valente rushed for 58 yards on 12 carries with Bouma totaling 54 yards on the ground with eight carries.
- Sophomore Jack Lawson led the Tartans with eight tackles. Ming recorded six solo tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
- Sophomore Ty Kadur ended the game with a career-high six tackles.
- Klassen finished the game completing 15-of-26 for 223 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Red Devils.

- Carnegie Mellon leads the all-time series 4-3.
- The Tartans have won 20 straight games when recording 400 yards of total offense and are 4-0 this season.
- The Tartans have won 30 straight contests when winning the turnover battle.
- The four touchdown runs by Wamhoff are the second most in a single game for a Tartan. Willem Bouma had five against Washington and Jefferson on October 21, 2023, in a 35-14 victory.
- The Tartans 664 yards of total offense is the second most in program history. The school record of 679 yards happened on October 2, 2010, in a 62-31 win over Hiram.
- The Tartans' 371 yards rushing is the most since rushing for 428 yards on October 31, 2015, in a 73-19 win at Thiel.
- The 70 points scored for Carnegie Mellon is the fifth most points scored in Tartan football history.
