(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country sophomore Parvathi Mayyappan (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Carnegie Mellon Hampton Inn Pittsburgh – University/Medical Center Invitational on Saturday, October 6. The honor is the first for Meyyappan this season and the first for the Tartan women's cross country team.
Meyyappan helped the Tartans to a third place finish at their annual invitational on Saturday. In a field comprised of 76 runners from Division I, II and III, Meyyappan crossed the 5k race third overall with a time of 19:08 and was the first Division III runner to finish.
The Tartans will next compete at the Rowan Inter-Regional Invitational on Saturday, October 13.
