(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Junior outside hitter Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) and sophomore libero Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Ca-lif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team were named Uni-versity Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week following their performance at the UAA round robin event over the weekend. Mueller garnered offensive accolades for the second consecutive week while Yew earns defensive honors for the first time this season. The two helped the Tartans to a 2-1 mark.
Mueller led the team with 57 kills, 4.75 kills per game, and hit .377 in the three matches. The jun-ior recorded double-doubles in all three matches. She opened play with 20 kills and 19 digs against Case Western Reserve, then tabbed 20 kills and 10 digs against NYU before closing the round robin with 17 kills and 13 digs in a win over 18th-ranked Washington University.
Yew totaled 86 digs for the week and extended her double-digit dig streak to 19 games for the season. She tied a career-high of 35 in the Tartans win over NYU. Additionally, Yew had seven service aces for the round robin.
The Tartans will be idle until returning to UAA play on Saturday, October 14 at the University of Chicago. Carnegie Mellon will open the second round robin against the Chicago at 12:30 p.m. CT.
