  • Tartans Earn AVCA Team Academic Award

    The 2016 Carnegie Mellon University volleyball program has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for its performance in the classroom by being named a recipient of the AVCA Team Academic Award.
  • Tartans Welcome Five for 2017 Season

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team will welcome five newcomers for the 2017 season. The Tartans will return to the court in August after recording 25 victories with a return trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Tartans, who placed second at the University Athletic Association Championship in 2016, graduated six seniors including three AVCA All-Americans.

    Carnegie Mellon University volleyball senior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Joining Higgins on the first team are senior teammates Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School).

    Six days after being selected to the All-North Region team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), senior middle blocker Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), senior libero Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) and senior setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team earned All-America Honorable Mention from the AVCA.
  • Tartans End Season at NCAA Regional Quarterfinal

    The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship at Calvin College against the Tigers of DePauw University Thursday, November 10. The Tartans fell 3-1 to the Tigers, as it marked Carnegie Mellon’s third appearance at the NCAA Championship tournament under 11-year head coach Kim Kelly and the fourth in program history.
  • Tartans Land Four on AVCA All-Region Team

    Senior middle blocker Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), senior setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) and senior libero Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) of the 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team were selected to the All-North Region team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Thursday, November 10. Sophomore Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) joins the three seniors on the squad as an honorable mention honoree.
  • Four Tartans Named to the All-UAA Volleyball Squad

    Four Carnegie Mellon University volleyball players were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team when the squads were announced November 8. Senior middle blocker Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and classmate setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) were named to the first team, sophomore Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) earned second team honors while junior libero Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) was named honorable mention.

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team received an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship on Monday afternoon, marking the fourth-ever appearance by the Tartans and third under 11-year head coach Kim Kelly.

  • #21 Tartans Fall to #8 Emory in UAA Champioinship Match

    The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team played in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship match for the third time in school history on Saturday, November 5 but suffered a 3-0 defeat to eighth-ranked Emory University. The Tartans now have an overall record of 25-7 while the Eagles moved to 30-5.
  • Tartans to Play for UAA Championship

    The 21st ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team will play for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship after advancing to the finals of the championship tournament following two wins on Friday, November 4 at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The Tartans defeated the University of Rochester, 3-0, in the quarterfinals and the University of Chicago, 3-2, in the semifinals.
  • #21 Tartans Top Oberlin, Drop 5-Set Match with #7 Wittenberg

    The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team traveled to Oberlin, Ohio, to face seventh-ranked Wittenberg University and Oberlin College on Saturday, October 29. In the battle of nationally ranked teams, the Tigers earned a five-set victory while the Tartans topped Oberlin, 3-0.
  • Newton Garners UAA Athlete of the Week Honor

    Senior Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. Newton receives the honor following her performance in helping the Tartans to three victories at their home invitational over the weekend.
  • Tartans Top Two Opponents on Senior Day

    The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team hosted Elizabethtown College and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Saturday, October 22 in its final home date of the season. The Tartans defeated both squads by 3-0 scores to move their record to 22-5.
  • Tartans Defeat Messiah, 3-1, in Home Invitational
    October 21, 2016
    The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team hosted Messiah College on Friday, October 21 in its first match of a home mini invitational and defeated the Falcons, 3-1. The 21st-ranked Tartans are now 20-5 on the season while the Falcons dropped to 21-5.
  • Higgins Honored by ECAC

    Carnegie Mellon University volleyball senior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) was honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as the ECAC South Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, October 19. This marks her honor by the ECAC for the season.

  • Tartans Finish UAA Round Robin with Two Wins

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team finished University Athletic Association (UAA) round robin action on Sunday, October 16 on the campus of Brandeis University. The 19th-ranked Tartans topped Case Western Reserve University and the University of Rochester by 3-0 scores to move to 19-5 overall and 4-3 in UAA play.
  • Gibbons and Higgins Record Career Marks in Saturday Split

    The 19th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team defeated New York University, 3-0, before falling to fifth-ranked Emory University in a tight battle, 3-1, on the first day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 hosted by Brandeis University on Saturday, October 15. The Tartans are now 17-5 overall and 2-3 in UAA play.

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, ranked 16th nationally, finished University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin play on Sunday, October 2 with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-23) victory over Brandeis University at home in Skibo Gymnasium. The Tartans are now 16-4 and 1-2 in UAA play while the Judges move to 6-9, 0-3.

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) play with two tough matches against 15th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Chicago on Saturday, October 1 at home in Skibo Gymnasium. The Bears defeated the 16th-ranked Tartans, 3-1, while the Maroons also upended the Tartans by a 3-2 score.
  • Volleyball Sweeps UAA Athlete of the Week Honors

    Carnegie Mellon University senior volleyball players, Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) and Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) as UAA Volleyball Athletes of the Week on Tuesday, September 27. The pair led the attack for the Tartans, as they swept competition at their home DoubleTree Invitational on Friday and Saturday this past week.
  • Kim Kelly to be Inducted to Gettysburg’s Hall of Athletic Honor

    Kim Kelly, Carnegie Mellon University’s head volleyball coach, will be inducted to the Gettysburg College Hall of Athletic Honor as part of the Bullets Homecoming Weekend on September 30. At Gettysburg, Kelly led the volleyball program first as a player and later as head coach.
  • Tartans Close Home Tournament With Two More Wins

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team finished its home DoubleTree Invitational on Sunday, September 24 with two victories. The 17th-ranked Tartans topped University of Mount Union, 3-0, before defeating John Carroll University, 3-1, to move to 15-2 for the season.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team opened the CMU DoubleTree Invitational on Friday, September 23 with two wins against region opponents. The Tartans started the night with a 3-0 win against Bethany College before topping Randolph-Macon College, 3-1. The #17 Tartans are now 13-2 on the season.
  • #14 Tartans Close F&M Scramble with a Pair of 3-2 Victories

    The 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team closed the Franklin & Marshall College Scramble with a pair of 3-2 victories over Ohio Northern and the host Diplomats. The two wins on Saturday improves the Tartans record to 11-2 overall.
  • #14 Tartans Split Action With Ithaca and Stevenson

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team, ranked 14th in the lastest AVCA Coaches' Poll, traveled to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for the Franklin & Marshall College Scramble to face Ithaca College and Stevenson University Friday afternoon. Ithaca upended the Tartans, 3-2, before the Cardinal and Gray won a five-set match against Stevenson.
  • Higgins and Yew Honored by ECAC

    Senior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla.) and freshman Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team received recognition by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) following their week of play. Higgins was named Corvias ECAC South Region Libero of the Week while Yew was named Corvias ECAC South Region Rookie of the Week.

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, ranked 14th nationally, hosted Franciscan University Wednesday, September 14 and won 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-16). The win improves the Tartans record to 8-1 while the Barons are now 2-8.
