  • Tartans to Welcome Five for 2016 Season
    May 17, 2016
    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team will welcome five newcomers for the 2016 season. The Tartans will return to the court in August after recording the second highest win total in school history with 29 victories in 2015. The Tartans will also return an All-American middle hitter and All-Region libero to go with four additional seniors, five juniors and five sophomores.

    Chisom Amaechi had a clear idea of what she wanted to do in 2009 when she graduated with her chemical engineering and engineering and public policy degrees from Carnegie Mellon University. Her time on the volleyball court and in and out of the classroom had prepared her for her life’s journey and for her next step, graduate school.
  • Higgins Named ECAC South Defensive Player of the Year

    Junior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Defensive Player of the Year. Joining Higgins on the ECAC All-Star squad is junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), a first-team honoree, and junior setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) on the second team.
  • Gibbons Garners AVCA All-America Honors

    Junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team earned All-America Honorable Mention from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), as announced early this week.
  • No. 25 Volleyball Advances to Semifinals of ECAC South Championship

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team hosted Marymount University Wednesday, November 11, in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Tournament. The Tartans defeated the Saints 3-1 (29-27, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22) to advance to the semifinals on Saturday. The 25th-ranked Tartans improve to 28-7 while the Saints end their season with a mark of 18-11.
  • Volleyball Selected as Top Seed for ECAC South Tournament
    November 10, 2015
    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, with a record of 27-7, has been selected as the number one-seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Tournament. The Tartans will play Marymount University, the eight-seed, in the first round of the eight-team regional on Wednesday, November 11 at 6:00 p.m. If the Tartans advance, they will host the semifinals and finals on Saturday, November 14.
  • Three Tartans Named to the All-UAA Volleyball Squad

    Three Carnegie Mellon University volleyball players were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team when the squads were announced November 10. Junior middle blocker Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) was named to the first team, junior setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) earned second team honors while junior libero Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) was named honorable mention.
  • Tartans Place Fifth at UAA Championship

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team finished the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in fifth place after defeating the University of Rochester, 3-0, on Saturday, November 7. The Tartans close the regular season with a 27-7 record.
  • Tartans Open First Day of UAA Championship Tournament with a Split

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, ranked 20th nationally, opened the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship with a 3-2 setback to the 21st-ranked Maroons of the University of Chicago before blanking Brandeis University 3-0 in the nightcap on Friday, November 6. The championship tournament is being held in Rochester, New York, on the campus of the University of Rochester. The Tartans are b26-7 overall and now have the most victories in a season in head coach Kim Kelly's 11-year tenure.
  • Higgins Garners Fourth ECAC Honor

    For the fourth time this season, junior libero Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla.) of the 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named Corvias Eastern Conference Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Libero of the Week. Higgins receives the award following the team’s 3-1 win over NAIA foe Point Park University Friday, October 30.
  • Tartans Top Point Park 3-1 in Final Home Match

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team hosted non-conference opponent Point Park University (13-22) on Friday, October 30. The 24th-ranked Tartans (25-6) defeated the Pioneers 3-1 for their third straight win.
  • Emily Newton Sets Up Action On and Off Volleyball Court

    Emily Newton is always looking out for others. On the volleyball court she has an amazing 1,022 assists in 30 matches, off the court she spent her sophomore year as a member of the University Student Affairs Council and serves on the executive board of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
  • Gibbons Receives UAA Weekly Honor

    Junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week. Gibbons helped the 24th-ranked Tartans to a 2-1 week, as the Tartans competed at the Juniata Wid Guisler Invitational Friday and Saturday, October 23-24.
  • No. 24 Tartans Sweep Through Two Matches at Juniata
    October 24, 2015
    The 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team swept through two matches at Juniata College on Saturday, October 24, defeating Geneva College and Bridgewater College by 3-0 scores. The Tartans are now 24-6 on the year.
  • Tartans Bring Energy, Battle No. 1 Juniata to 3-1 Loss

    For the second straight match, the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team faced the number one team in the country as they traveled to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, to face the top-ranked Eagles of Juniata College Friday, October 23. The 24th-ranked Tartans (22-6) took game two from the Eagles (25-1) but ultimately fell 3-1 in the non-conference showdown between regionally ranked opponents.
  • Higgins and Jurgens Honored by ECAC

    Junior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla.) along with freshman Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn.) of the 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team were recognized by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) following their week of play at the second University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin. Higgins was named Corvias ECAC South Region Libero of the Week while Jurgens was named Corvias ECAC South Region Rookie of the Week.
  • Tartans End UAA Round Robin Play with a Split

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team ended play Sunday, October 18 splitting a pair of matches at the second University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin hosted by Case Western Reserve University. The Tartans opened play Sunday with a 3-0 win over University of Rochester before dropping a 3-0 contest to top ranked Washington University. Carnegie Mellon has a 4-3 mark in UAA play and an overall record of 22-5.
  • Tartans Return to UAA Play with Wins Against NYU and #15 Chicago

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team returned to University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Saturday, October 17 after a week off of competition. The Tartans used the rest to their advantage and defeated New York University (NYU), 3-0, and 15th-ranked University of Chicago, 3-1, at the UAA Volleyball Round Robin #2.
  • No. 21 Tartans Fall in UAA Contest to No. 3 Emory

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team finished University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 play on Sunday, October 4 with a match-up against third-ranked Emory University. The Tartans fell 3-0, moving their record to 19-4 on the year and 1-2 in UAA play.

    The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) play with a win and a loss on Saturday, October 3 at New York University. The Tartans are now 19-3 on the year and 1-1 in UAA play.

    Junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named Corvias Eastern Conference Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Player of the Week. Gibbons helped the 21st-ranked Tartans remain in the national rankings after the Tartans posted a 4-1 week.
  • No. 20 Tartans Win Two on Final Day of Home Invitational

    Behind the hitting of junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and a team defensive display, the 20th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team defeated Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 3-0, and 25th-ranked University of Mount Union, 3-2, to close out the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational on Saturday, September 26. The Tartans are now 18-2 on the year.
  • No. 20 Tartans Split a Pair of Five-Set Matches at Home DoubleTree Invitational
    September 25, 2015
    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, ranked 20th nationally, opened play at its home DoubleTree Invitational Friday, September 25 and split a pair of five-set matches. The Tartans started the evening with a 3-2 victory over Stevenson University before dropping the nightcap to John Carroll University. Carnegie Mellon is now 16-2 overall.
  • Salandra Ties a Career-High as No. 20 Tartans Top Franciscan

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, ranked 20th nationally, traveled to Steubenville, Ohio for a midweek contest against Franciscan University Wednesday, September 23. The Tartans improved to 15-1 with a 3-1 victory over the Barons winning by the scores of 30-28, 25-12, 22-25, 25-19.
  • Donohue Named All-Tournament as No. 22 Tartans Win Twice Saturday Afternoon

    The 22nd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team competed at the 2015 Days Inn Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabethtown College Saturday, September 19 and came away with a pair of 3-1 victories. The Tartans started the day against McDaniel before topping University Athletic Association foe Rochester to improve to 14-1 on the season.
  • No. 22 Tartans Split a Pair at Days Inn Blue Jay Classic
    September 18, 2015
    The Carnegie Mellon University women’s volleyball team, ranked 22nd nationally, opened play Friday evening at the 2015 Days Inn Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabethtown College. The Tartans split a pair of games dropping their first of the year to start the classic to No. 15 Eastern University 3-0 before rebounding to defeat the host Blue Jays 3-2. The Tartans are now 12-1 on the season.
  • Higgins Garners Second Straight ECAC Honor

    For the second consecutive week, junior libero Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla.) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named Corvias Eastern Conference Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Libero of the Week. Higgins receives the award two days following the teams entrance into the national rankings at No. 22.
  • Volleyball Ranked 22nd Nationally

    The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team found a spot on the Division III Top 25 poll released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Tuesday, September 15. The team debuts at 22nd and the ranking is the first for the program since 2004 when the Tartans were ranked as high as 23rd that season.
