  • #10 Tartans End Spring Trip with Tough Setback to #7 Wesleyan

    (Orlando, Fla.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked 10th nationally, dropped a hard fought match, 6-3, to seventh-ranked Wesleyan University in a rematch of the third round of the NCAA Championship from last season. The Tartans are now 9-5 on the season while Wesleyan remains perfect at 4-0.

    The 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team was back on the courts Monday in Orlando, Florida, and once again split a pair of matches. The Tartans opened the day with third-ranked Amherst College and loss 6-3. The Cardinal and Gray then rebounded and took down Division II Shippensburg University 6-1 under the lights. Carnegie Mellon is now 9-4 overall.

    The 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Sunday in Orlando Florida. The Tartans started the day with a hard fought 8-1 loss to topped ranked Emory University before defeating Dickinson College 8-1. The Tartans are now 8-3 overall.

    The Carnegie Mellon women's tennis team, ranked 10th nationally, opened its spring break trip in Orlando with a 7-2 decision over Swarthmore College. The Tartans are now 7-2 while the Garnet even their mark at 2-2.

    The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team placed fifth at the 2019 ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Sunday after taking down University Athletic Association foe, Washington University in St. Louis 5-2. The Tartans are now 6-2 overall while the 13th-ranked Bears move to 4-3.

    The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 5-4 battle to eighth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Friday. This year’s championships are being played in Nashville, Tenn. and are hosted by Sewanee. Carnegie Mellon is now 4-2 overall while Pomona-Pitzer moves to 3-1.

    The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 7-2 win over Division I Mount St. Mary's University Saturday evening. The Mountaineers are now 0-4 after dropping the contest at the Greensburg Racquet Club.

    The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened the second half of the season against Division II Slippery Rock University on Friday, February 1 at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania, winning 7-0. The Tartans advance to 3-1 for the year while Slippery Rock drops its first contest and is also 3-1.
  • Vinaya Rao: Thriving in a Competitive Environment

    Junior women's tennis player, Vinaya Rao, is passionate about developing her athletic and academic skills alongside ambitious peers. Last year, Vinaya competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Doubles Championship with doubles partner, Melissa Strome, where the pair earned All-American status placing fifth overall. Vinaya is also an All-UAA Second Team selection at No. 2 singles and a two-time No. 2 doubles selection.

    Sophomore Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and freshman Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team played in ITA Cup Division III Doubles National Championship match on Saturday and dropped a hard battle to Caroline Cox and Catherine Allen of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The championships were held at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team competed at the final day of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships sweeping the doubles and singles titles. Sophomore Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and freshman Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) were crowned doubles champion while Taylor also won the singles championship.

    Junior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and sophomore Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) were crowned doubles champions at the Hall of Fame ITA Grass Court Invitational on Saturday, September 15. The two played in the finals of the Bueno/Court Flight.

The three-day event will be held on the historic Bill Talbert Stadium Court and additional grass courts at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, all of which have hosted many of the sport’s greatest tennis legends over the years.
