(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for her efforts as the Tartans returned to the court for the first time since October on Saturday, February 4. The Tartans defeated Division I Saint Joseph's University, 5-2, and Division II Slippery Rock University, 9-0.
Torres won four matches on the day including two number one doubles matches with partner Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont). Against Saint Joseph's, the pair won, 6-3, at first doubles before fighting back at first doubles against a regionally ranked pair (#9) from Slippery Rock to win 9-8 (7-5). In singles play, Torres won twice at first singles, 6-3, 6-3 against Saint Joseph's and 6-1, 3-6, 10-3 against Slippery Rock.
The Tartans will be back on the court this weekend when they host a pair of Division I opponents in Saint Francis (Pa.) University on Saturday, February 11 and Duquesne on Sunday, February 12.
