  • Carnegie Mellon Announces UAA 25th Anniversary Women's Tennis Team

    As part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the University Athletic Association (UAA), the Carnegie Mellon University Department of Athletics is honored to announce the school’s all-time UAA women's tennis team.
  • Three Earn ITA All-America Recognition

    Two seniors and one sophomore on the Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team finished the year as All-Americans when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its All-America teams for 2012. Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) earned the honor for the eighth time while Courtney Chin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) was named to the list for the third time to finish their respective careers. Sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) earned the honor for the first time for her play in singles competition.

    Seniors Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) and Courtney Chin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team finished their run at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Doubles Championships at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. with a setback in the national quarterfinal match.

    Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis program received three NCAA Division III national awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday, May 23. Senior Cze-Ja Tam (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) was awarded the Arthur Ashe Jr. for Leadership and Sportsmanship award, sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) was named national player to watch while assistant coach Mike Belmonte was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

    Carnegie Mellon University senior Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) will finish her career as an eight-time All-American after a first-round singles victory at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday, May 24 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Chen also competed in doubles competition alongside fellow senior Courtney Chin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista), as the pair advanced to the quarterfinals with a three-set win.
  • #6 Tartans Just Miss Moving On at NCAA Championship

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked sixth in the nation, took on #3 Amherst College in the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship on Monday, May 21, with the match going down to the wire. The Tartans came up short, 5-4, despite a marathon singles match by senior Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) who was determined to pull out her match in hopes of moving the Tartans to the semifinals for the first time in school history.
  • Women’s Tennis Racks Up ITA Regional Awards

    The Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team is headed to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championships next week and recently received word that five members, including both coaches, have been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) with season-ending regional awards. Seniors Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) and Cze-Ja Tam (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula), along with sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) join head coach Andrew Girard and assistant Coach Mike Belmonte as Atlantic South Region award recipients.
  • Tartans Move On; Win Regional Title for Third Time

    Led by three seniors, the #6 Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team won it's third regional title in the past four years, defeating host and #8 DePauw University 5-0 on Saturday, May 12 in Greencastle, Indiana. The Tartans swept through doubles play and received victories by their No. 2 and No. 3 singles players to finalize the win.
  • #6 Women's Tennis Advances to Fifth Straight NCAA Regional Final

    The #6 Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team advanced to the third round of the 2012 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship with a 5-0 win over Coe College on Friday, May 11 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. The Tartans improve to 17-5 and will play for the regional championship for the seventh time in eight years including the last five.

    When the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Committee selected individuals and doubles teams to compete in the 2012 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships, Carnegie Mellon University found three of its athletes on the list. Seniors Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) and Courtney Chin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) were selected to team up in doubles play while Chen along with sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) will play in the singles competition.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team will play for the 2012 NCAA Championship as they travel to DePauw University for a regional event on May 10-12. The team earned the bid after finishing the regular season with a national ranking of six.

    Sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) and senior Cze-Ja Tam (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team were honored by the University Athletic Association's (UAA) coaches on the All-UAA team for the 2012 season. The pair earned a spot on the second team at third doubles.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team lost to #11 Washington University Sunday, April 29 in the third-place match of the University Athletic Association Championship by the score of 5-4. The match was played at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., as the Tartans move their record to 16-5 while the Bears are now 15-7.
  • Cecil Impressive in #4 Tartans' UAA Semifinal Loss

    The 4th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men’s tennis team fell to #6 University of Chicago 8-1 in the semifinals of the 2012 University Athletic Association Championships Saturday, April 28. The championships this season are being played at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Tartans are now 16-4 while the Maroons improve to 18-4.

    The 4th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the University Athletic Association Championships with a 7-2 victory over Case Western Reserve University Friday, April 27 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The win moves the Tartans record to 16-3 while the Spartans are now 17-5.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked fourth nationally, hosted #8 Johns Hopkins University Sunday afternoon April 15. The Tartans defeated the Blue Jays 6-3 to better their record to 15-3, as Johns Hopkins is now 10-5.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked fourth nationally, traveled to Granville, Ohio Saturday, April 14 to play #26 Denison University. The Tartans improved to 14-3 with a 7-2 victory over the Big Red while Denison moves to 7-9.
  • #5 Tartans Upend #4 Washington & Lee

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked 5th nationally, hosted the #4 Generals of Washington and Lee University Saturday, March 31. After falling to the Generals 5-4 in the ITA Division III National Team Indoor Championship, the Tartans got their revenge, defeating Washington & Lee 5-4 Saturday. Carnegie Mellon improves to 13-3 while the Generals are now 14-5.
  • Women's Tennis Ranked #5 in Nation

    The Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team received its highest national team ranking since the 2008-09 season when the latest rankings from Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) were announced March 29. The Tartans are ranked fifth in the nation.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team traveled to Fredericksburg, Va. on Sunday afternoon and defeated the #22 Mary Washington Eagles 8-1. The win improves the Tartans dual record to 12-3.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team, ranked fifth nationally, hosted the top ranked Ephs of Williams College Monday, March 19. The Tartans determination to upset the four-time defending national champions came short with a 6-3 setback. The loss moves Carnegie Mellon’s dual-match record to 11-3 on the season and Williams remains unbeaten at 6-0.

    The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked 13th nationally, concluded its west coast trip with a 9-0 victory over #17 University of the South on Thursday, March 15. The win improves their dual match record to 11-2 while the Tartans handed the Tigers their first loss of the season, as they have a record of 6-1.

The Tartans played #8 Washington & Lee University and dropped a hard fought match 5-4 to the Generals. Carnegie Mellon’s dual-match record is now 8-2 while the Generals are 7-2.

The Tartans played University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Washington University and blanked the #14 Bears 9-0 to advance to the national final match. The win improves Carnegie Mellon’s dual-match record to 8-1 on the season and the Bears are now 2-1.

The Tartans played Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday and upset the seventh-ranked Athenas 8-1 to advance to the semifinals. The win improves Carnegie Mellon’s dual-match record to 7-1 on the season and CMS is now 3-1.
