(GAMBIER, Ohio) - A handful of swimmers on the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team traveled to Gambier, Ohio to Kenyon College's Fast Chance meet to see if they could better there times from the season and qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held in March.
Sophomore Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) set a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in 56.90 to win the event and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. She has the chance to swim in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events at the championships.
Senior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman) touched second in the 100-yard butterfly, bettering her season top time, with a provisional cut time of 57.43.
Both Singhaus and Phan along with others will find out if they've made the NCAA cut in the next few weeks.
