(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball sophomore Makayla Filiere (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) earned her second University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week award this season after posting back-to-back career-high scoring games and leading the Tartans to a 1-1 week.
Filiere averaged 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals, as the Tartans fell to Washington and Jefferson College, 51-48, and defeated Saint Vincent College, 77-65. In the final game of the week, Filiere had a career night against Saint Vincent where she scored a career-best 30 points, topping her previous career-best of 25 points scored Tuesday against Washington and Jefferson. In the game against Saint Vincent, Filiere connected on 6-of-7 from long range to bring her weekly total to 11-of-17 for 64.7%. She also tied her career-high in rebounds with eight. Her field-goal percentage finished the week at .525 in 33.5 minutes of action.
The sophomore currently leads the UAA in scoring (21.3 ppg), steals (2.8 spg) and three-point field goal percentage (.520) through eight games played.
Filiere and the Tartans will be back on the court at home on Tuesday, December 19 against Waynesburg University at 2:00 p.m.
