(KISSIMMEE, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team dropped a pair of games on Tuesday, March 12 in Kissimmee, Florida. The first game favored Marietta College, 6-0, before Meredith College was able to finish off a 3-1 win against the Tartans who are now 1-5 for the year.
Game 1: Marietta 6, Carnegie Mellon 0
The Pioneers (5-1) had five hits against freshman Amanda Schwartz (Fairfield, N.J. / West Essex Regional High School) scoring one run in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth. The Tartans also had five hits with senior Renee Madrigal (Norwalk, Calif. / St. Paul High School) smacking a double to right center.
Game 2: Meredith 3, Carnegie Mellon 1
Freshman Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) struck out seven batters but also surrendered seven hits for three runs by the Avenging Angels who moved to 2-8 with the win. Freshman Summer Faille (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Westlake High School) scored the only run for the Tartans when she slid into home plate after an errant throw by Meredith's first baseman.
The Tartans are off Wednesday before resuming action with a double header against SUNY Potsdam beginning at 3:45 p.m.
