  • Men's Track Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award
    July 29, 2013
    The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the men's 2013 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list. A total of 80 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.1 or better.
  • Three Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field Athletes Named Academic All-District

    Carnegie Mellon University had three athletes named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for men's cross country and track and field for the 2012-13 season; senior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and sophomore George Degen (Madison, Wis./West). CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.
  • Newby Competes in First-Ever NCAA Championships

    Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) ran at the first day of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Division III Track and Field Championships on Thursday, May 23. This year's championships are being hosted by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
  • Newby Receives Invite to NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

    Junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s track & field team received an invite to compete at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Division III Track and Field Championships held May 23-25 in La Crosse, Wisconsin hosted by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Newby will be competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
  • Five Personal-Best Marks Set at Allegheny's Gator Invitational

    Multiple athletes from the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the 7th Annual Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College Friday, May 10. During the meet five Tartans set personal-best marks.
  • Erra-Hernandez Named UAA Most Outstanding Field Performer

    Carnegie Mellon University junior Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Outstanding Performer in the field events, as announced Wednesday, May 1. Erra-Hernandez won two UAA titles and claimed a second-place finish while helping the Tartans finish second at the UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend.
  • Four Event Wins Highlight Day as Tartans Place Second at UAA Championships

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team placed second at the University Athletic Assocation (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by New York University. The Tartans won four events and placed third in four events on the second day while scoring 177 team points.

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team traveled north to Allegheny College for a midweek tri meet with the Gators and Penn State Behrend. The Tartans finished second with 110 points.

  • Tartans Finish Second at Home Quad Meet

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team finished second at its annual home quad meet on Saturday, April 6 as Penn State Behrend finished in first with 207 points to the Tartans 192. The Tartans did win seven events during the afternoon.
  • Two Tartans Receive UAA Honor

    Junior Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate) and sophomore Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s track and field team were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week. The two helped the Tartans to a first-place team finish at their Mini-Invite on Saturday, March 30.
  • Tartans Run Away with Win at Home Invite

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team won its home Mini-Invite with 234 points against Allegheny College, Denison University, SUNY Fredonia and Waynesburg University. The Tartans won six field events and three running events while sweeping the shot put, discus throw and 800-meter run.
  • Track and Field’s Markowitz Spends Spring Break Giving Back

    When most students plan trips for spring break, they think about relaxing and enjoying the bright sun. Track and field athlete David Markowitz, did just that, but in a different way. The junior spent the week in Taos, New Mexico, as a volunteer with the Carnegie Mellon University chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

    Sophomore Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y. / Mamaroneck) was named the University Athletic Association Men’s Most Outstanding Performer in Running Events and the coaching staff was honored as the Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year after the team won its first-ever UAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday, February 24.

The 2013 championships were held on the campus of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

    For the second consecutive week, sophomore Mike McDermott (Seekonk, Mass./La Salle Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s indoor track and field team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week. The sophomore receives the honor following the Tartans’ dual meet victory over UAA foe Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, February 2 in the Fifth Annual Battle for the Obelisk.

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team dominated in the Fifth Annual Battle for the Obelisk on Saturday, February 2 at Case Western Reserve University as the men's and women's program won by a score of 149-105. The Tartan men won their half by a score of 88-39.

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s track and field won the Lid-Lifter Invitational held at Denison University on Saturday, January 26 in a field comprised of five teams. The Tartans ended the day with 177 team points with Washington & Lee, the second-place team, tallying 96 points.
