(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for his performance this past weekend. The junior returned from a season-ending injury last fall to start the season 5-0 after competition in the Tartans home invitational with Duquesne University and the team championship at the Nancy J. Heath Gator Invitational at Allegheny College.
Duncan began the season with an 8-4 doubles win and 8-5 singles win against the Division I Dukes Friday night. On Saturday he helped lead the Tartans to victory at the Nancy J. Heath Gator Invitational with 9-0 wins against Division II Edinboro University and Allegheny. The junior again paired with fellow junior Christian Heaney-Secord to win two No. 1 doubles matches, 8-0 and 8-5. In singles play, Duncan was victorious at No. 3 singles against Alexander Hurtuk of Allegheny, 6-3, 6-4.
The men's tennis team will be off until the ITA Regional Tournament held at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia starting September 28.
