(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Junior diver Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass./CRLS) and freshman swimmer Max Gonzalez (Allison Park, Pa. / North Allegheny) were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week for men's swimming and diving this week.
Bamforth earns his second award of the season after winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the meet against Grove City College and Washington and Lee University. He turned in a season-best performance on the 1-meter board when he tallied 298.58 points and finished the 3-meter with 295.58 points, just below his season best of 300.00 points set last week.
Gonzalez helped the Tartans to a pair of wins at the against Grove City and Washington and Lee by winning three individual events and one relay. He started the meet as part of the 200-yard medley relay that took first with a time of 1:33.85. Gonzalez then had three individual top finishes, as he touched the wall in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.28, recorded a time of 52.40 in the 100-yard butterfly and won the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:56.54. Hi performances in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM both rank in the top 15 in the nation.
Up next for the Tartans is the home diving invitational on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18 before the team breaks for Thanksgiving.
