(NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the opening day of the 2018 NCAA Division III Preview held at the par-72, 7,190-yard Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The 54-hole event is being hosted by Transylvania University. The Tartans currently are tied for second place in a field of 18 teams after carding a 36-hole score of 593 on Monday. The Cardinal and Gray opened play with a 307 and the followed with a round of 286 in the afternoon.
Leading the field is University Athletic Association counterpart, Emory University with a 577 (300-277). Wittenberg University is tied with the Tartans after carding rounds of 311 and 282. Huntingdon College sits one-stroke behind the Tartans and Tigers with a 594 (304-290).
Sophomore Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) is tied for third individually in a field of 90 golfers after carding 36-hole score of one-under par 143. The sophomore opened play with a 74 before carding a career-low round of three-under par 69 in round two. Sophomore Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) sits two strokes behind Li with a 145 and is tied for seventh. Folker also recorded a career-low score during the second round of play with a three-under par 69 after beginning Monday with a 76.
Freshman Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) carded rounds of 77 and 73 for a 150 while classmate William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) ended play with a 155 (80-75) on Monday. Senior Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) shot a 163 (85-78).
The third and final round will be held on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
