  • Men’s Basketball Earns Team Academic Honors by NABC; Five Individuals Honored

    For the third consecutive year, the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the second annual Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2014-15. Besides the team being honored, five members were selected to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2014-15 season.
  • Carnegie Mellon’s Men’s Basketball Hires Jeff VanGorder as Full-Time Assistant

    Jeff VanGorder has been announced by head coach Tony Wingen, in his 26th year at the helm of the Carnegie Mellon University’s men’s basketball program, as the full-time assistant coach for the upcoming 2015-2016 season. VanGorder will also serve as the Tartans’ recruiting coordinator.
  • Opportunistic Attitude Leads Chasen to Difference Making Possibilities

    Blake Chasen, a junior on the Carnegie Mellon University's men’s basketball team, is no stranger to adversity. An injury sent him to the sideline for the duration of his sophomore year, but after significant rehab and hard work, he established himself as a pivotal player for the Tartans in 2014-2015 and a leader amongst teammates and other athletes.
  • Serbin Named to the ECAC Division III South Men’s Basketball All-Star Team

    Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) was named to the ECAC Division III Men's South Basketball All-Star Second Team. The postseason honor is the second for Serbin as he was named to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Second Team.
  • Carnegie Mellon’s Cordts and Serbin Named to the All-UAA Men’s Basketball Squad

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team had two players named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Team by the league's coaches when the Association announced its postseason accolades Wednesday, March 4. Senior Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) along with last year’s UAA Rookie of the Year, sophomore Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio), found a spot on the Association's second team.
  • Solid Effort Leads Tartans Past Case Western Reserve, 82-71

    The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team used stellar free throw shooting in the final minutes to defeat Case Western Reserve University 82-71 at Horsburgh Gymnasium in the final University Athletic Association (UAA) game of the season. The Tartans move to 14-11 and 5-9 while the Spartans fall to 15-10 and 6-8.
  • Cordts and Serbin Named to the Capital One Academic All-America Men’s Basketball Squad

    For the first time in school history, two Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball players, senior Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) and sophomore Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio), were named Capital One Academic All-Americans in the same year. As announced Tuesday, February 24 by Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Cordts was named to the second team while Serbin found a spot on the third team. The two also become the sixth and seventh players in program history to receive the prestigious honor.
  • Serbin Sets Blocks Record in Late Loss to No. 18 Emory

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team gave 18th-ranked Emory University all it could handle in its last home University Athletic Association (UAA) contest for the season, Sunday, February 22. The Eagles (19-5, 9-4) prevailed 75-63 but not before the Tartans (13-11, 4-9) pushed them to the edge.
  • Men’s Basketball Secures Winning Season With 64-55 Victory Over Rochester

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team hosted University of Rochester on Friday, February 20 and led for 37:27 which propelled the Tartans to a 64-55 victory in University Athletic Association play. The win improves Carnegie Mellon’s record to 13-10, 4-8 while the Yellowjackets fall to 9-14, 5-7.
  • Serbin Scores Career-High 31 Points in Setback at NYU

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team continued University Athletic Association (UAA) play Sunday, February 15 at New York University and dropped a 94-82 contest. Carnegie Mellon is now 12-10, 3-8 while NYU improves to 16-6, 7-4.

Cordts receives the honor following a 2-0 week for the Tartans, including a victory over the 12th-ranked Bears of Washington University.
  • Tartans Defense Fuels 25-Point Victory Over Chicago

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team continued University Athletic Association (UAA) play and turned in a stellar defensive outing in a 73-48 victory over visiting University of Chicago. The Tartans recorded a season-high 11 blocks while improving to 12-8 and 3-6 in UAA play. Chicago moves to 14-6, 6-3.

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team had three players score in double figures as the Tartans upset the 12th-ranked Bears of Washington University 72-59 on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium Friday, February 6. The University Athletic Association (UAA) victory improves the Tartans record to 11-8, 2-6 while Washington is now 15-4, 4-4.

    Two Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball players, senior Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) and sophomore Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio), were named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District Men's Basketball First Team, as announced Thursday, February 5 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

    The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team headed west on Friday, January 30 to play the seventh-ranked Bears of Washington University in St. Louis in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. Carnegie Mellon dropped to 10-7, 1-5 in UAA play with a 79-59 setback to the Bears who improve to 15-2, 4-2.

Serbin helped the Tartans to a 1-1 mark over the break while also playing a huge factor in the Cardinal and Gray starting the season 9-0, its second best start in school history.

The win improves the Tartans’ record to 8-0, tying the second best start in school history, while the Redhawks are now 1-8.

    Sophomore Jack Serbin’s (New Albany, Ohio) fourth double-double of the season, 26 points and 13 rebounds, led the Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team to a 102-68 victory over the visiting Lion of Penn State Beaver on the second day of the 2014 Carnegie Mellon/DoubleTree Invitational. The Tartans improve to 7-0 for the first time since the 2008-09 season while the Lions drop to 0-6.
