(DANBURY, Conn.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University athletes were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) when the organization announced its weekly award winners this week. Volleyball sophomore Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) and women's cross country senior Aparna Alavilli (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) were both honored.
Kayla Yew - South Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Sophomore libero Kayla Yew was named MVP at the Susquehanna University Hampton Inn River Hawk Classic, as she helped the Carnegie Mellon University women’s volleyball team to a trio of 3-0 victories. Yew picked up 33 digs for the weekend and extended her double-digit dig streak to 11 games for the season. Additionally, Yew had six assists and two service aces.
Aparna Alavilli - South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Senior Aparna Alavilli was the first of 134 runners to cross the finish line at the Allegheny College Classic on Saturday. She led the Tartans to the team title by eclipsing the 3-mile course in 18 minutes and three seconds.
